The mower's air filter is the most common and easiest to replace operating part. It protects the engine from dust and other small contaminants, and clean clean air is supplied to the engine's combustion chamber. Depending on the manufacturer and model of the mower, the air filters can be square or cylindrical / round in shape, further divided into several types depending on what materials they are made of.

Types of air filters

Foam the filters are made of porous polyurethane forming a filter of the required dimensions

These filters can be cleaned and reused as long as they are not too contaminated e.g. grease or tear. The filter is also unsuitable for use if it has lost its original shape - dirty air can enter through the gaps. Prolonged use of the filter is not recommended because heavily polluted reduces airflow, the engine can not run efficiently, consumes more fuel.

Paper the filters are made of sheets of paper joined together and additionally reinforced with aluminum mesh, cast in a round, oval or square-shaped soft rubber frame whose edges act as a gasket. Tests performed by the manufacturers have shown that the original air filters last one and a half times longer than their counterparts from unknown manufacturers.

How and how often do you need to change the air filter?

If your lawn is small in area and maintenance tools are used rarely enough air filter to replace once a season. If the plot is large and the grass needs to be mowed frequently, it is recommended to change the filter (every 50/75/100 operating hours) 2-3 times a season, especially if the summer is rainless, the soil is dry and the dust and grass left by the lawnmower blade .

How to replace the air filter?

You will need the usual tools - a wrench or a Phillips / flat-blade screwdriver. The filters are attached to the top of the engine in easily accessible places with tools. Remove the metal or plastic protective cap, remove the old filter, clean the dirt in the air intake, and attach the filter after installing the new filter.

Foam and some paper filters can be cleaned with a stream of compressed air or washed with warm water, dried and reused. Save your time if your lawn is a large area, purchase frequently replaced consumables in a few units at once.
